Course Title: Multicultural Series for Prevention Professionals: South East Asian Cultures

 

Date(s):  Thursday, June 28, 2012      

Time:  9:00 pm- 4:00 pm                                                   

Course Description:

This workshop provides 6 hours of training for those working in a prevention setting in behavioral and/or mental health. Those involved in prevention program planning, implementation, and evaluation who are seeking more information about working with South East Asian individuals,families and community members are encouraged to attend. This training will deliver culturally specific information and interactive activities.

 

         South East Asian culture across the lifespan, and gender roles, in both traditional and modern contexts.

          Health beliefs and concepts of wellness and illness in prevention, treatment and recovery.

         Working with individuals, families and communities: how to communicate effectively across cultures, what to avoid, how to use interpreters when necessary.

         Understanding the roles of prominent historical moments, events, trauma and acculturation on South East Asians.

 

This interactive training is limited to 25 participants to allow

 

for activities, dialogue and information and resource exchanges.

  • Lunch is available for $8.00 through this site, or you may bring your own lunch, or buy lunch outside our offices. Lunch is to be held from 12pm-1pm. You may stay here at this time if you would like to eat with colleagues or just to network!
  • In case of cancellations or changes, attendees will be notified by email if possible. A message will also be left at MLI (203-691-1486) by 7 am on the day of the event.

  • This event is Free  under a grant from the Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (DMHAS)

*Refunds for the luncheon will not be made past 5 days prior to event. Refunds prior to this date will be subject to a $1.00 fee.

 

Tickets are non transferrable unless you contact MLI prior. There may be a waiting list for this event and we ask only those that can committ to attending will register for the event, to be fair to others. In the case that you need to cancel your registration, we ask that you notify us so that we may offer the seating to those next on the list. Thank you.

 

ATTENTION PREVENTION PROVIDERS:  This is a training open to all, but especially for DMHAS funded prevention providers, SPF-SIG/BP and PFS grantees and their members, that should help you apply theory to your SPF-SIG/BP/PFS practice and steps if you are in these categories. If you are not a DMHAS-Funded prevention program provider nor receive these particular program/ grant funds, you are still welcome to attend as it will be relevant to your own work.
